概要 |
I study the long-neglected result that the vacuum state of QCD with five or more colours is altered by the limited dimension of spacetime, a condition dubbed 'dimensional frustration'. A well-motivated ansatz finds that the vacuum state becomes anisotropic in the internal space, resulting in quarks and gluons of different colours being confined at different length scales if the dual superconductor model of confinement is assumed. An SU(3) subgroup spontaneously separates from the rest of the dynamics at intermediate energies and an unconfined U(1) field emerges at low energy. The effective particle spectrum contains both quarks and electrons with the correct confinement properties and electric charge ratios. |
