Under the assumption of Abelian dominance, we show that the condensation of QCD monopoles leads to the chiral symmetry breaking. The result arises based on the fact that when massless quarks scatter with a magnetic monopole, their chiralities are not conserved. We also propose an order parameter just like the Polyakov loop, which characterizes a Z_N symmetry. The order parameter is defined in 4D Minkowski space-time. We calculate the contribution of the monopoles to the order parameter. We find that the order parameter vanishes when the monopoles condense, while it does not vanish when the monopoles do not condense. Thus, the order parameter distinguishes the confinement phase from the de-confinement phase. |
